LadyJustice Speaks to Connecticut Law Class

Donna R. Gore was graciously invited to make a presentation to the University of Connecticut Law class of Attorney Michelle S. Cruz on October 22, 2013. As students of the law, what better way to learn than to hear first hand accounts of experiences in the judicial system presenting the pitfalls surrounding a particular case. LadyJustice began with an introduction to her medical survivorship, something which no doubt prepared her spirit for the obstacles which lay ahead in her life. She then explained the homicide of her father, a pivotal moment in time which caused her to draw upon her innate strength and attitude to continue, bringing her to where she is today, a seeker of justice, not only for herself and her immediate family, but for others who have walked the same path. She described for the class the circumstances leading to her father’s murder and the dynamics of her family’s diverse coping skills. The aftermath of losing a daughter to violent crime, intimate partner violence, is excrutiating for a close knit family, but they found unique ways to honor her memory and help others, along with receiving their own needed resources to heal. Joining us for the show is Elizabeth’s mother, Audrey Carlson, who is President of the Elizabeth Anne Carlson Memorial Scholarship for the Performing Arts, a foundation that continuously gives to Elizabeth’s greatest love, theater and dance. Saturdays at 5pm ET Listen LIVE:  CLICK HERE Male survivors of sexual abuse are finally finding help, healing and recognition through organizations like MaleSurvivor and passionate advocates like Executive Director, Christopher Anderson.  Before the time when news reports came out about boys being molested by clergy and leaders of boys groups, the public had no idea of the scope of the issue. Boys and men who are survivors of sexual abuse often did not report their abuse and lived with the trauma for years. Slowly the public is becoming more educated about the myths surrounding male survivors of sexual abuse, learning that, like their female counterparts, they deserve the same treatment in all aspects of the issue of sexual abuse.
