Dottie Laster: Upcoming Human Trafficking Month Events

  January, 2016 is proclaimed asNational Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month.  During the month there are ongoing education and awareness opportunities in every city across the nation. Dottie Laster will be appearing at several venues in the San Antonio, TX area to educate citizens about the perils of modern-day slavery. As  National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month folds into February’s Black History Month, Laster will have the opportunity to compare the historical context of slavery to how it applies today. New Braunfels Women’s Chamber of Commerce On Thursday, January 21, 2016 Laster addresses the New Braunfels Women’s Chamber of Commerce. The Cantinera Documentary Screening in Florence, South Carolina

South Carolina is working to improve it’s stand against human trafficking by educating local communities about the various ways it exists within the state. Traffficking in humans is not only seen in the sex trade, but forced labor in transient industries, anything which constitutes “force, fraud, or coercion” against another human being. The Florence Baptist Association Task Force is sponsoring a screening of The Cantinera documentary on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 7pm Eastern time at the Julia Theater, 1110 S. Irby Street in Florence, South Carolina. The film screening is free and open to the public. One of the local organizations which provides safe houses and assistance for women and children, the Pee Dee Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Assault, will be represented and accepting donations to continue their valuable cooperation in the human trafficking field. Dottie Laster Filming Project Red Light Reality Show about Human Trafficking

Filming has begun in Houston, Texas for Dottie Laster’s new reality show on human trafficking,  titled Project Red Light. A red light symbolizes “stop” and that’s what the show is about, stopping human trafficking on its own turf. Dottie Laster and her film crew, including a security detail and body guards for her and her team went into the belly of the beast to attempt to rescue girls from the sex trafficking trade. Dottie Laster has been involved in the rescue and restoration of over 200 victims in her career as an advocate, but rarely has the opportunity for security or body guards to accompany her. She was overcome with emotion when she realized that she didn’t have to be as vigilant for her own safety and could concentrate on getting to the victims and assisting them safely, a very risky business. Laster and her team often make trips to bars and cantinas where known traffickers are prostituting their victims. Able to recognize who the victims are she’s able to make contact, talk to them, …
