Human Trafficking Awareness Month Event at New Braunfels Library Hosts Dottie Laster

  Thursday, January 29, 2015 the New Braunfels, Texas Public Library, 700 E. Common St., will be hosting a presentation by Dottie Laster of Bernardo Kohler Center and Laster Global Consulting in honor of National Human Trafficking Awareness Month. The event is free and open to the public to attend and learn about the effects of modern-day slavery. Laster titles her presentation, “What Would Frederick Douglass Do?” based on the life work of the escaped slave and late 1800’s leader of the abolitionist movement, also Laster’s historical mentor. Reminding the audience of the struggles that Douglass was able to overcome, along with his accomplishments and successes, she sheds light on the condition of slavery, then and now. She will share her vision with the audience and not only encourage involvement, but demonstrate ways that everyone can contribute their talents. Dottie Laster Presentations for National Human Trafficking Awareness Month

New Braunfels, Texas resident, Dottie Laster will be involved locally with workshops and presentations honoring 2014 National Human Trafficking Awareness Month throughout the month of January. On January 13 New Braunfels Art League, 239 W. San Antonio St., is sponsoring a jewelry making workshop titled, “Make One, Donate One” from 1-3:30pm where participants will learn to make a piece of jewelry. The piece that’s donated will help benefit victims of human trafficking who are working to become self-sufficient. Students will need to bring flat-nose pliers, chain-nose pliers, and flush cutters if you have them, other supplies to make the bracelets will be provided. To enroll in the class, please call Lynda Medore at (830) 358-0186. The TRAFFICKED Designs and SOS=Save One Soul project began with the idea that it will generate enough funds to support those who need it most, the survivors. Author Diane Fanning Signing “Mommy’s Little Girl” at Texas Event

Celebrating National Library Month in New Braunfels, Texas, True Crime Author Diane Fanning, has been invited to participate in a community event and special luncheon being held at the Seekatz Opera House on Thursday, April 28. The event will be held from 11am to 2pm in downtown New Braufels, featuring five authors who will give a brief presentation, as well as be available for signing copies of their books. Fanning, one of America’s premier true crime writers, will present her latest book on the life and death of littleCaylee Anthony, “Mommy’s Little Girl.”  As the country is held spellbound on the outcome of the trial of Caylee’s mother, Casey Anthony, Diane Fanning has written the story of a child whose life was ended far too soon. Other authors participating in the program are: Wendy Weil Atwell, David Denis, Mimi Brian Vance and Karen Walrond.  All donations from the event will go towards underwriting projects for the New Braunfels Public Library, including creating a child-oriented reading area complete with computer stations.
