Dottie Laster Featured at Crimes Against Families Conference

Crisis Center of Comal County, Texas will be hosting the Crimes Against Families Conference on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, beginning at 8am Central. The event will be held at the McKenna Event Center, 801 W. San Antonio St., New Braunfels. The goal of the conference is to learn how to reach out to rural communities with education and awareness of their risks for crime. Registration is required to attend. Dottie Laster will be giving a presentation on how youth are being targeted by trafficking. Laster will explain the most common grooming practices being seen in schools and colleges across the country in order that young people, and adults, will be more tuned in to the epidemic of human trafficking. Her presentation will cover the basics of trafficking, especially sex and labor trafficking, what danger signals are present, and the proper responses if one is approached. Laster says, “There is a growing problem within our schools where traffickers are infiltrating. Dottie Laster Speaks at Film Screening About Human Trafficking in Texas

  Friday, June 20, 2014 the Comal County Unitarian Universalist Society will be screening The Cantinera Documentary at 6:30 pm Central time. Dottie Laster, who is featured in the film, will be on hand after the screening to conduct dialogue and answer questions with attendees. On Sunday June 22 Dottie will continue the conversation during the 10:30 Sunday service at the church. The church is located at 135 Alves Lane, New Braunfels, TX 78130 and the screening is open to the public. The Cantinera captures the essence of trafficking for sex in the gritty bars and hidden back rooms in Houston’s cantinas. Viewers are taken into the secret life along with a group of advocates who fearlessly tread into dangerous situations looking for victims and offering help. All the while, the film records the true story of one cantinera who was brought into the life by her mother at 13, how she lived for 23 years drinking 30 beers a night, and how she longs for sobriety and a second chance. Dottie Laster Speaks at Youth for Human Rights International Celebrity Studded Benefit

Actress Marisol Nichols (“GCB”) and Dr. Mary Shuttleworth hosted a celebrity benefit for Youth for Human Rights International at Eva Longoria’s restaurant Beso in Hollywood on Tuesday, March 25 2014. The celebrities in Hollywood love to come out for a good cause and the benefit for Youth for Human Rights International was no exception. They came out, compete with a red carpet entrance, but with their hearts attached to the cause of human rights for youth around the world. Among those stars, Dottie Laster was honored to speak about her achievements within the issue of global human trafficking. No stranger among celebrities, Laster has served as technical advisor and/or producer of TV and movie projects for all major networks, and several motion picture production companies, and has worked with noted celebrities to raise funds and awareness about the issue of human trafficking.
