Fundraising Continues for Groundwork: Halloween Benefit Raffle

Saturday, October 29, beginning at 4:30 pm at the Hampton Inn Banquet Room in Bolingbrook, IL,there will be Halloween festivities for the whole family, including raffles for various gift baskets, face painting and temporary tattoos for the kids, a DJ spinning tunes, Halloween inspired baked goods, and door prizes.  A family themed event created to have fun while participating in a good cause. October 1 marked the beginning of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Guardian Angels Community Service agency’s domestic violence program, Groundwork, kicked off the month with a 5Kwalk honoring victims of abuse.  Team Missing Stacy Peterson participated and has continued collecting donations for the agency along with other teams.  Ending the Awareness Month, all of the teams will unite as team “We Are One” and have organized a final fundraising event on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the Hampton Inn in Bolingbrook, IL. Team Missing Stacy Peterson “Walks the Walk” in third annual 5k walk to benefit the Groundwork program of Guardian Angels Community Service

Chicago Area Abuse Awareness and Fundraising 5K Walk On Saturday, October 1, 2011 people will gather all over the country for the beginning of National Domestic Awareness Month.  For the third year, the Guardian Angels Community Service agency’s domestic violence program, Groundwork, has organized a 5k walk honoring the victims of violence, bringing awareness to the community, and raising funds to continue their programs.  The walk teams will collect at 8am at Hammel Woods, Crumby Recreation Area, Black Road, Shorewood, IL.  Opening remarks will be given by Will County State’s Attorney James W. Glasgow and The Honorable Judge Marilee Viola.  The walk will begin at 9:15am. TEAM STACY PETERSON, once again, will assemble to remind the Chicago area, and show the nation,  the lives of those in violent situations do not go unnoticed.  The team members wish to be the voice for those who have been silenced, showing their commitment to victims by helping the Groundwork program keep their services available. Neil Schori: The Response of the Church to Domestic Violence

Neil Schori, Pastor of Naperville Christian Church, has been invited to speak to the staff of Groundwork in Joliet, IL on April 20 about the church’s role in responding to intimate partner violence. Pastor Schori has worked closely with victims of abuse through his ministry at Naperville Christian Church and has been utilizing a groundbreaking procedure, the Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit, developed through his connection with Susan Murphy Milano, Intimate Partner Violence Prevention Expert, and used within his church.  Schori will present the basics of the Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit to the staff in hopes it will be adopted and practiced within their program to assist victims. Neil Schori is instrumental in gathering other pastors, regardless of denomination, to a mission of properly responding to abuse victims, creating a safe haven within the church and faith based community where victims can find better procedures and better resources to begin a journey away from violence for themselves and their children.
