Dottie Laster Featured at Crimes Against Families Conference

Crisis Center of Comal County, Texas will be hosting the Crimes Against Families Conference on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, beginning at 8am Central. The event will be held at the McKenna Event Center, 801 W. San Antonio St., New Braunfels. The goal of the conference is to learn how to reach out to rural communities with education and awareness of their risks for crime. Registration is required to attend. Dottie Laster will be giving a presentation on how youth are being targeted by trafficking. Laster will explain the most common grooming practices being seen in schools and colleges across the country in order that young people, and adults, will be more tuned in to the epidemic of human trafficking. Her presentation will cover the basics of trafficking, especially sex and labor trafficking, what danger signals are present, and the proper responses if one is approached. Laster says, “There is a growing problem within our schools where traffickers are infiltrating. Human Trafficking in Houston: A Community Policy Forum

OnTuesday, October 7, 2014 at 6pm (Central) human trafficking activist and advocate Dottie Laster CEO of Laster Global Consulting and affiliated with Bernardo Kohler Center, joins Elijah Rising’s Founder and Executive Director, Cat French, along with Harris County Attorney Linda Geffin, and former trafficking victim Kathryn Griffin-Townsend for a community policy forum about trafficking in Houston. Each of the participants have been active in the trafficking issue for several years and each bring a different perspective to the discussion. TRAFFICKED Designs: Company Created to Employ Survivors of Human Trafficking

TRAFFICKED Designs is a New Braunfels, Texas start up company founded by Dottie Laster to employ survivors of human trafficking. Laster has been involved in the rescue and restoration of hundreds of victims across the country, and through the Bernardo Kohler Center she is accredited to practice immigration law. Using acquired skills of the survivors to design and create jewelry, art and other products, the company assists rescued victims to better assimilate back into society by learning skills to re-enter the job market successfully. The difficulty for victims needing a fresh start lies in a job market where background and credit checks limit the availability of meaningful employment. Resources for rescued victims are inadequate throughout the United States, clearly an area of need among every community whose budgets are at a minimum.
