Dottie Laster Press Conference Announces Digital DNA Kit

On Monday, October 26, 2015 Dottie Laster, Executive Director of Heidi Search Center convened a press conference in San Antonio, TX to announce the creation of the Digital DNA Kit as a supplement to their Child ID Kits used to gather information in the event a child goes missing. Individual speakers at the press conference included Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Calvert, Sheriff Susan Pamerleau, Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, Chief William McManus, San Antonio Police Department, Michelle Lee, FBI, and Dottie Laster, Heidi Search Center. The Digital DNA Kit is used by missing persons organizations and law enforcement agencies to get immediate information about where a missing child may be by tapping into their social media accounts.  “This is invaluable to parents to keep on record for if your kids disappear or runaway,” said Chief William McManus with San Antonio Police. Laster reports that Heidi Search Center offers a Digital Parenting Class that educates parents about the latest internet applications and to help make informed decisions regarding children and the internet. Dottie Laster: Why Do I Do What I Do? The Positive Effects of Human Trafficking Advocacy Training

As Dottie Laster completes another  Anti-Human Trafficking Advocacy training session, the necessity for training across the country becomes clearer, this time in a heartwarming way. To her surprise, on the first day of the 2 day session, the attendees contained two survivors of trafficking  which she assisted in their rescue and restoration.  At the end of a long day of training, her thoughts return to other victims in need of the same services and the dire need for advocates to know exactly what to do for them. The Positive Effects of Human Trafficking Advocacy Training Advocacy training is where anyone can learn about case histories, legal details and distinctions in place to stop and punish traffickers, and how to become an advocate who brings recovery and services to survivors. It takes much more than reading books and articles, or even just the passion to help. Although both important, the rescue of trafficking victims is a dangerous business, and without proper training and support services, the dangers become quite risky. The annual conference sponsored by the Texas Association of Licensed Investigators (TALI) will be held from August 24-August 27, 2015 at the Wyndham Riverwalk in San Antonio. The theme of the 2015 conference is Pursuit of Excellence and features sessions addressing forensics, business, and investigations with various speakers and instructors. Dottie Laster named Executive Director of Heidi Search Center 

Human Trafficking Expert Accepts Position with Missing Persons Organization Nationally recognized human trafficking expert, Dottie Laster, has accepted the position of Executive Director of Heidi Search Center located in San Antonio, Texas. According to their website, “Heidi Search Center was established in August, 1990, following the abduction of 11-year-old Heidi Lynn Seeman. She disappeared from her Northeast San Antonio neighborhood on August 4, while walking home from a friend’s house.”  The non-profit organization provides community resources and aids law enforcement with search efforts, provides advocacy, and referrals. Dottie Laster is known nationally for her work in combatting human trafficking. She is also affiliated with the Bernardo Kohler Center where she is accredited to practice immigration law. Laster has been directly involved in the rescue and restoration of hundreds of victims of trafficking and continues to offer her unique training to law enforcement and organizations. Recently, Laster has taken an active role speaking to youth in schools and colleges across the country, a population targeted by traffickers. Dottie Laster Appears on Crime Time with Vito Colucci

One of the best podcasts featuring crime related topics is Crime Time with Vito Colucci heard live on Sundays at 11pm EST. Colucci prides himself in creating interesting conversations with top notch people in their fields. Dottie Laster and her work combatting human trafficking was the subject for the latest broadcast. Listeners will learn her background and how she became involved with the issue, literally overnight, after an encounter with a speaker at her college, St. Mary’s. Laster quickly became immersed with setting up events and conferences within the school to further the dissemination of information about human trafficking to her peers. She then went on to work at creating coalitions, task forces, and worked directly with the Department of Justice developing law enforcement training programs.
