Dottie Laster named Executive Director of Heidi Search Center 

Human Trafficking Expert Accepts Position with Missing Persons Organization Nationally recognized human trafficking expert, Dottie Laster, has accepted the position of Executive Director of Heidi Search Center located in San Antonio, Texas. According to their website, “Heidi Search Center was established in August, 1990, following the abduction of 11-year-old Heidi Lynn Seeman. She disappeared from her Northeast San Antonio neighborhood on August 4, while walking home from a friend’s house.”  The non-profit organization provides community resources and aids law enforcement with search efforts, provides advocacy, and referrals. Dottie Laster is known nationally for her work in combatting human trafficking. She is also affiliated with the Bernardo Kohler Center where she is accredited to practice immigration law. Laster has been directly involved in the rescue and restoration of hundreds of victims of trafficking and continues to offer her unique training to law enforcement and organizations. Recently, Laster has taken an active role speaking to youth in schools and colleges across the country, a population targeted by traffickers. Human Trafficking Awareness Month Event at New Braunfels Library Hosts Dottie Laster

  Thursday, January 29, 2015 the New Braunfels, Texas Public Library, 700 E. Common St., will be hosting a presentation by Dottie Laster of Bernardo Kohler Center and Laster Global Consulting in honor of National Human Trafficking Awareness Month. The event is free and open to the public to attend and learn about the effects of modern-day slavery. Laster titles her presentation, “What Would Frederick Douglass Do?” based on the life work of the escaped slave and late 1800’s leader of the abolitionist movement, also Laster’s historical mentor. Reminding the audience of the struggles that Douglass was able to overcome, along with his accomplishments and successes, she sheds light on the condition of slavery, then and now. She will share her vision with the audience and not only encourage involvement, but demonstrate ways that everyone can contribute their talents. Dottie Laster Launches Austin Fundraiser for Bernardo Kohler Center

    On Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 6pm Central, Bernardo Kohler Center is sponsoring a fundraiser at Law Offices Building of Wilson Sonsoni Goodrich and Rosati, 900 Capital of Texas Hwy., Austin, TX. The public is encouraged to attend and take part in learning about the various services Bernardo Kohler Center provides. There will be a silent auction, music, speakers and jewelry for sale made by survivors of human trafficking. The mission of Bernardo Kohler Center is “…. to attain safety, respect, and justice for abused, abandoned, neglected juveniles, victims of crime, human trafficking victims, and asylum seekers by providing legal, social, and educational services.” The advocates are continually working with cases brought to them from all over the world including Mexico and Central America, and as far away as Nepal, Cameroon, and Eastern Europe. Through programs like Casitas, which addresses abandoned and abused children, and Save One Soul, which addresses human trafficking, victims are provided with legal representation as they make their way through the chaos of their situation. Human Trafficking in Houston: A Community Policy Forum

    OnTuesday, October 7, 2014 at 6pm (Central) human trafficking activist and advocate Dottie Laster CEO of Laster Global Consulting and affiliated with Bernardo Kohler Center, joins Elijah Rising’s Founder and Executive Director, Cat French, along with Harris County Attorney Linda Geffin, and former trafficking victim Kathryn Griffin-Townsend for a community policy forum about trafficking in Houston. Each of the participants have been active in the trafficking issue for several years and each bring a different perspective to the discussion. Craft Salon & Style Bar, 2307 Dunlavy Street in Houston will be hosting the event to provoke and inspire thoughtful policy discussion.
