“Beauty is only skin deep, what’s important is finding a balance of body, mind and spirit.”
Certified Health Coach, Janet Hosmer, learned to assist others in achieving their health goals by struggling first hand with her own. A life-long effort to control her weight, only to find that she was focusing more on a size or a number rather than her health issues, Hosmer eventually realized her problem wasn’t the latest diet with bad results, but that her goal of good health brought the results she was looking for.
It’s recognized that the medical community’s current role is to focus on treating the symptoms and diseases stemming from the consequences of unhealthy living. Unfortunately, medications and surgeries do not help create health. The current approach focuses more on “sick care” than “health care.”
“Health coaching is becoming recognized as a new way to help individuals “manage” their illnesses and conditions, especially those of a chronic nature. Health coaching guides patients to talk about what is most troubling to them about their conditions, what they most want to change, what support they have to foster change, and what obstacles or difficulties must be removed or minimized to advance healthy behaviors.” (Wikipedia)
After beginning her new campaign for healthy living, along with quitting smoking, she succeeded in losing the pounds and kept them off. This event spurred her to become certified as a Health Coach through the National Institute of Health to help others through a developed program of nutrition and better lifestyle choices. She has been successful in aiding numerous individuals reach their goal of healthy living.
