Investigating Innocence: The High Cost of Justice

Defense attorneys and private investigators across the country are bombarded by families who believe their loved ones are innocently incarcerated, convicted of a crime they did not commit. Some have served prison sentences exceeding 20 years, many on death row. What does it take to find justice within our current system? St. Francis College Hosts Lecture on Investigating Wrongful Convictions

On Tuesday, October 28, 2104 Bob Rahn and Kim Anklin of Management Resources LTD of NY will be guest lecturers at St. Francis College, 180 Remsen St., Brooklyn, New York, Room 4202, at 11:00am. The lecture will center around the wrongful conviction and subsequent exoneration of Jonathan Fleming who served 25 years in prison for a murder he did not commit. Management Resources was contracted by the family of Jonathan Fleming and over the period of a year they were able to uncover several problems in the original investigation, along with new witness testimony and uncovered evidence, which lead to Fleming’s exoneration and release from prison in April, 2014. Bob Rahn and Kim Anklin have received high honors from their peers for their painstaking work on the Fleming case, and have managed to keep the best interest of their client in the forefront since his release. Several items on the list addressed the issue of integrity within the private investigator profession. Concerns which made the list include: Unlicensed and/or non-professional investigators. The criminals and unethical investigators working illegally, undercutting prices, and giving industry a bad name The flood of low rate investigators coming in from retired law enforcement The business is being taken over by people who do not care about their integrity and can do anything to succeed in their goals PI’s all over the country need to be held to a higher standard as to weed out those with no integrity What are the requirements to become a licensed private investigator? Bob Rahn & Kim Anklin Invited to Participate in Penn State Online Course

Bob Rahn and Kim Anklin, principals of Management Resources LTD of New York, have been invited by Penn State University to participate in their online course, Presumed Innocent? The Social Science of Wrongful Conviction which runs from June 25, 2014-August 13, 2104.  The instructor for the course is Tim Robicheaux who teaches a broad range of courses including Organized Crime; Race, Crime, & Justice; and the Sociology of Deviance and Forensic Psychology. Offered through Coursera, Penn State University and other top universities, offer classes to the public and students for free or a small cost for certification. The course on wrongful conviction consists of written text and approximately 10-12 minutes of video content. The video content will include both lecture by the instructor (Tim Robicheaux) and interviews with social scientists, legal scholars, and individuals active in the criminal justice system. PODCAST NOW AVAILABLE:   The wrongful conviction and recent exoneration of Jonathan Fleming quickly made headlines across the US and globally. What many of the major news outlets didn’t cover was the back story of the year-long investigation. Bob Rahn and Kim Anklin were first approached by the Fleming family after many attempts were made through legal channels, and other private investigators, to prove Fleming’s innocence, one of several cases awaiting rulings within the Brooklyn, NY District Attorney’s office.
