Jeff Mudgett’s “Grand Jury” Examines H.H.Holmes Evidence as the Identity of Jack the Ripper!

Definition of a Grand Jury The purpose of a grand jury in US law is to decide whether there is enough evidence presented by the prosecutor to file charges and proceed to trial. Typically grand juries are held in strict confidence, without a judge or lawyers present, however, evidence, exhibits, and testimony are held to strict courtroom rules of evidence before admission. Members of a grand jury may ask questions of witnesses and prosecutors to best understand the evidence being presented. Unlike a jury trial, a grand jury does not need to have a unanimous vote, but a majority in order to indict and the grand jury does not determine guilt or innocence, they only decide if the evidence is strong enough to file an indictment and take the case to trial. In his book, BLOODSTAINS, author Jeff Mudgett relates the account of his great-great-grandfather, the notorious serial killer H. H. Holmes (Herman Webster Mudgett), through the experience of discovering his ancestry, to investigating his every move through long hidden diaries belonging to Holmes. One chapter is …

TEDx Vancouver Features Jeff Mudgett for “TILT”

On Saturday, October 18, 2014 Jeff Mudgett will step into the spotlight of the TEDx Vancouver live event being held at the Queen Elizabeth Theater in Vancouver, BC. Mudgett has created something a little “tilted” to comply with the theme of the TEDx Vancouver conference, TILT. His presentation will swear in the audience as a “Grand Jury” to interactively conclude a legal decision: if evidence he produces is enough to show probable cause and take his case to trial, something never done at TEDx. What case? The possibility of the true identity of Jack the Ripper, none other than Mudgett’s great-great-grandfather, Herman Webster Mudgett, known in American criminal history as H. H. Holmes, architect of the Murder Castle in Chicago, IL and dubbed “America’s First Serial Killer.” Mudgett’s book, BLOODSTAINS, tells the story of H. H. Holmes from a completely new angle, a personal history combined with methodical research into an ancestor no one would willingly claim. Herman Webster Mudgett was a swinder, a con man, a womanizer and, at his worst, H. H. Holmes, …

Jeff Mudgett Talks About Jack the Ripper Grand Jury on The Roth Show

The back story of Jeff Mudgett’s BLOODSTAINS has been told many times over the last two years since its publication, but the recent news of DNA proof of the identity of Jack the Ripper has “Ripperologists” all abuzz about its veracity. Could bloodstains on an alleged victim’s shawl contain DNA evidence of the Ripper? The controversy continues to be debated. (Check out the Twitter hashtag #JackTheRipper for all kinds of opinions!) During presentations in Philadelphia September 26, Mudgett will use the audience as a “grand jury.” He will present the evidence collected through his research since writing BLOODSTAINS that the true identity of the Ripper may be his great-great-grandfather, America’s first serial killer, H. H. Holmes (Herman Webster Mudgett). Dr. Laurie Roth has welcomed Jeff Mudgett as a guest on her nationally syndicated The Roth Show several times. He has talked about his nefarious ancestor and the heinous crimes he committed in Chicago’s infamous “Murder Castle.” He’s related to listeners his personal encounter with the ghosts that haunt him in the form of remembering victims, …
