Dawn Schiller: “Through and Beyond Wonderland,” E.S.T.E.A.M.

There is pleasure getting to know Dawn Schiller before and after her book, “The Road Through Wonderland: Surviving John Holmes” was written and released.  What many don’t know is that this book, with all the details of a horrifically violent relationship, was over 6 years in the making.  Why did it take so long, you may ask?  Think about writing details of your own worst nightmare, think about reliving them, one by one, baring all your secrets, and then you may have the answer. Dawn Schiller, for those who do not yet know her story, was living a not so typical teenage life, living in the violent neighborhoods of Miami, when she was reunited with her absent father, went along with him to California and, by coincidence, ended up in a relationship with well known adult film star, John Holmes.  There are several misconceptions about how this could happen,  why would a 15 year old be attracted to a 32 year old man from the adult film industry?  What you don’t know is the meat of …

“Beyond Wonderland:” Dawn Schiller and Susan Murphy Milano on Here Women Talk

In February, 2010 Susan Murphy Milano and Dawn Schiller had a frank discussion on the radio show, “Riding Away From Wonderland” talking about Dawn’s early childhood, her dysfunctional family and her teenage relationship with 32 year old, “King of Porn,” John Holmes.  It was one of the most popular shows of the year, and now Dawn and Susan will be back together to take the conversation to another level. Dawn Schiller’s life was wrought with dysfunction leading her into a relationship with porn star, John Holmes, at the age of 15.  It’s not what it sounds like.  John Holmes, 32, delicately groomed Dawn to be his partner, isolating her from the “industry,” he kept her for himself.  Author of her memoir, The Road Through Wonderland: Surviving John Holmes, Dawn recounts the horrific details of her life with John Holmes. Years later, with a lot of work, and the grace of God, Dawn has become a sane, sober woman reaching out to help other “throwaway teens.”  Her non-profit, E.S.T.E.A.M., offers programs of help to troubled teens in …

Dawn Schiller Appearing on Voices For Justice October 27th

Dawn Schiller was fifteen years old in 1976, when she met thirty-two-year-old porn star John Holmes. Holmes courted Dawn, had sex with her, and manipulated her with drugs and alcohol. Holmes physically and emotionally abused Dawn for several years. After the famed Wonderland murders in 1981, they fled to Florida, where she ultimately broke free and turned him over to the police. Since spending almost 6 years in the process of writing her book, Dawn has formed a new non profit to help mentor “throwaway teens,” E.S.T.E.A.M. which will reach into the communities to show these teens a way off the streets and get them on track for successes in their lives. Schiller received the Courage Award by the President’s Commission on the Status of Women for her courage and vision in working for a world without violence against women and girls. “Dawn is a strong ‘voice for justice’ and we’re so honored she will take an hour in her tour to stop by and help empower our listeners to be the best they can …

EmpowerTeens (dot) Com: Remember This Site!

Dawn Schiller has been travelling far and wide, speaking and signing copies of her book, The Road Through Wonderland: Surviving John Holmes. This book was a long time coming forth, the memories as hard for Dawn to deal with as it is for the reader to comprehend.  However, Dawn Schiller did survive her teen relationship with porn star, John Holmes, and has reached a point in her life where just re-telling the past is not enough, she is reaching out to other “throwaway teens” so that they may be better equipped to make effective choices. If you read The Road Through Wonderland you know that Dawn’s tumultuous family left her primed for a predator to take advantage of her, and that’s exactly what Holmes did.  At 32, and the “king of porn” Holmes delicately groomed 15-year-old Dawn and kept her for himself.  As reluctant as some are to believe, Holmes never exposed Dawn to the adult film industry, and she never participated in porn.  Holmes did, however, expose Dawn to the underbelly of life through abuse, drug …
