Debbie Hodges explains her decision to opt out of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and pay the penalty even though she has a rare chronic illness, is prescribed several expensive medications, and has ongoing issues related to her health situation. Hodges is just a few years short of being eligible for Medicare and has amassed debt to pay for health insurance under the ACA. She is prescribed 11 different medications to deal with the effects of her chronic illness, but has to order from Canada, or other countries outside the US, to be able to afford them. Hodges is not someone who takes her situation lightly since being diagnosed in 1997. She planned well for her future knowing her medical costs would continue for the rest of her life.   January, 2016 is proclaimed asNational Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month.  During the month there are ongoing education and awareness opportunities in every city across the nation. Dottie Laster will be appearing at several venues in the San Antonio, TX area to educate citizens about the perils of modern-day slavery. As  National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month folds into February’s Black History Month, Laster will have the opportunity to compare the historical context of slavery to how it applies today. Are you kidding me? I just finished writing, editing, and putting this baby to bed!   Now that the publishing world has drastically changed from whirlwind, cross country, all expenses paid book tours, to a “no” marketing plan, authors are on their own.  Not only do they have to research and write the book, edit and get it just right, now they must blog about it, gather followers on all the social media sites, and, if lucky, get in the door of a bookstore to sell it and have a signing event.  On top of trying to carve out time to write, this could put any good person over the edge! 1.
