  Shattered Lives Radio proudly welcomes Sandy Hein back to the show. With so much high-profile sexual assault and murder crimes coming out of Virginia recently we will talk about the possibilities of how these crimes could have been prevented. Sandra Hein is a respected hostage negotiator and trainer in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area with many years of experience in managing hostage-barricades and training new negotiators. She served as a detective with the Alexandria Police Department in Alexandria, Virginia before retiring in 2012. Sandy is a 23-year law enforcement veteran who was assigned to the Hostage Negotiations Team for ten years.  Sandy was a certified Instructor with the Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) for the Commonwealth of Virginia and served on the training faculty of the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance (VSDVAA).  She has trained law enforcement officers and allied professionals in the areas of sexual violence, SART response, crisis intervention, hostage negotiation, and police investigative procedures. Dottie Laster Launches Austin Fundraiser for Bernardo Kohler Center

    On Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 6pm Central, Bernardo Kohler Center is sponsoring a fundraiser at Law Offices Building of Wilson Sonsoni Goodrich and Rosati, 900 Capital of Texas Hwy., Austin, TX. The public is encouraged to attend and take part in learning about the various services Bernardo Kohler Center provides. There will be a silent auction, music, speakers and jewelry for sale made by survivors of human trafficking. The mission of Bernardo Kohler Center is “…. to attain safety, respect, and justice for abused, abandoned, neglected juveniles, victims of crime, human trafficking victims, and asylum seekers by providing legal, social, and educational services.” The advocates are continually working with cases brought to them from all over the world including Mexico and Central America, and as far away as Nepal, Cameroon, and Eastern Europe. Dottie Laster Featured at Crimes Against Families Conference

Crisis Center of Comal County, Texas will be hosting the Crimes Against Families Conference on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, beginning at 8am Central. The event will be held at the McKenna Event Center, 801 W. San Antonio St., New Braunfels. The goal of the conference is to learn how to reach out to rural communities with education and awareness of their risks for crime. Registration is required to attend. Dottie Laster will be giving a presentation on how youth are being targeted by trafficking. Laster will explain the most common grooming practices being seen in schools and colleges across the country in order that young people, and adults, will be more tuned in to the epidemic of human trafficking. Her presentation will cover the basics of trafficking, especially sex and labor trafficking, what danger signals are present, and the proper responses if one is approached.
