March 1 marks the launch of CHAIN REACTION in the Lucinda Pierce crime mystery series by Diane Fanning.
Since 2008 when the first book in the series, Trophy Exchange, was released, Virginia Homicide Detective, Lucinda Pierce has been beset with investigating all sorts of grisly crime occurring in her state. Woven within each crime story is a glimpse into other underlying issues of importance, from domestic violence to care taking duties of an Alzheimer’s patient, and, in CHAIN REACTION, the possibility of terrorism.
The character of Lucinda Pierce is always is aptly portrayed as the strong heroine in the series, the tough female cop, but one depicted with complex emotion and heart, overcoming her own personal distresses and skillfully performing her duties as an officer of the law.
CHAIN REACTION:
One quiet Sunday morning, homicide investigator Lucinda Pierce is called out to a bomb blast at a local high school. It seems the caretaker has been fatally wounded in the explosion and there is one other unidentified body. A bomb blast points towards suspected terrorism so, much to her annoyance, Lucinda is pulled off the case and the FBI takes over. While they are determined to prove this was an act of terrorism, Lucinda is convinced otherwise and pursues her own investigation — along with FBI agent Jake Lovett, who just happens to believe she may be right.
When another high school pupil’s dead body is discovered, Lucinda is convinced she is pursuing the right path in uncovering the motivations for the bomber. However, will the competing agencies ever acknowledge her conviction and allow her to solve the case?
In 2013 Fanning returned to Virginia after making her home in Texas for many years. 2013 also celebrated her 20th published book, and in 2014 she will be releasing a total of three more, Chain Reaction (Mar. 1), and in the Fall look for Under Cover of the Night (true crime) and Scandal in the Secret City (historical novel).
