In her book, Twitch, Twitch, Lee Love’s character finds herself embroiled in a workplace situation with a co-worker bully because of her immigration status, her skin color, her gender, and any other “difference” the bully could find to complain about to superiors. Twitch, Twitch, although fiction, is based on the real life experiences of the author.
Jamaican by birth, Lee Love immigrated to the United States at age 11 with the same high hopes of others,, the dream of success. Running head on into discrimination and the workplace bully, Lee Love persevered and learned many hard lessons along the way. Love achieved a level of success which afforded her the opportunity to travel the world and see her wishes come true, but not without a price.
Lee Love has taken a stand against bullying of all kinds and has been quite vocal about how it effects the self worth of those who suffer at the hands of a bully, especially in the workplace.
One often overlooked subtle forms of bullying can be found in relationships, especially in co-habitation arrangements where there aren’t any legalities, contracts, or pre-nups to spell out the rules. A mistake often made, especially in the beginning of a love relationship when the shiny stars tend to blind us from reality, is not clearly laying out the ground rules ahead of merging households.
When CBS New York did a piece on the growing trend of cohabitation agreements, they called on Lee Love for her expertise to present viewers with an up close and personal look at cohabitation agreements and how they lay out responsibilities of each party. No, you don’t have to be Madonna, Michael Jackson, or rich and famous to be taken to the cleaners by the one you allowed to move into your life! Love believes everyone thinking about living under one roof should be aware of the pitfalls should the love relationship goes sour and protect themselves from further drama should a breakup occur.
Lee Love is a voting member of the Alliance for Women in Media which is “….a non-profit, professional organization of women and men who work in the media and allied fields. With nearly 10,000 community members, the Alliance for Women in Media is proud to represent men and women engaged in all aspects of creating high-quality media and related services.”
