From a recent CBS NEWS report:
Researchers find that nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug, and more than half receive at least two prescriptions,reports CBS Atlanta.
Researchers from the Mayo Clinic, a non-profit medical and research center, report that antibiotics, antidepressants and painkiller opioids are the most common prescriptions given to Americans.
Twenty percent of U.S. patients were also found to be on five or more prescription medications.

Catherine, thank you for sharing with others your sorrow. It’s the only way others will know that it is happening at alarming rates in our country. Doctors are too quick to prescribe, sometimes not knowing all the interactions with other drugs and over the counter meds, something drug companies don’t always know either. I admire your blog and it will help others, your sister in law will not have died in vain if her story saves one other life.

My husband and I were touched by *prescription meds* overdose this past Nov 2012 when my sister-in-law overdosed on Psych & pain medications. We are all still in some shock, as the coroner ruled her Death “Intentional Overdose”…….all the family where trying to help her for months, but to no avail. The laws in Arizona are tough to break through to have a person be “Incapacitated”.
