Your Health is Wealth with Dr. Akoury
Monday-Wednesday-Friday at 12:30pm on WFXB FOX TV
Special guest: Dr. Gregory Smith
From a recent CBS NEWS report:
Researchers find that nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug, and more than half receive at least two prescriptions, reports CBS Atlanta.
Researchers from the Mayo Clinic, a non-profit medical and research center, report that antibiotics, antidepressants and painkiller opioids are the most common prescriptions given to Americans.
Twenty percent of U.S. patients were also found to be on five or more prescription medications.
If you aren’t shocked by these findings, you should be!
Americans are becoming addicts at an alarming rate, and doctors are becoming legalized drug dealers, some unwittingly contributing to the epidemic of prescription drug addictions.
Dr. Gregory Smith and Dr. Dalal Akoury are two doctors that are out to change the attitudes and assist Americans out of the slavery of drug addiction, and all types of addiction. (smoking, alcohol, sex, food, etc.) Addiction is not just a problem with lower economic citizens, it’s found it’s way into the lives of the professional sector and is growing rapidly. Many professionals with addictions are reluctant to seek help, embarrassed to admit there is a problem, and oftentimes lose everything, family, money, jobs, and most important, their health.
American Addict is the story of how America has gone from the land of the free to the land of the addicted. America represents 5% of the world’s population but consumes 50% of the world’s prescription pills and over 80% of the world’s prescription narcotics; this is NOT a coincidence. This film reveals the relationships between the FDA, big Pharma, physicians and the media that are in place to ensure that medical problems are treated primarily with pills. The horrific consequences that result from this practice results in overuse, abuse and unnecessary deaths. American Addict is the most important film of 2012 because it could literally save your or a loved one’s life.

*Thanks for stopping by my blog, and I agree with every word. Even though my addiction was gambling, I do try to share about all types of addiction. Thanks Again! *
Catherine, thank you for sharing with others your sorrow. It’s the only way others will know that it is happening at alarming rates in our country. Doctors are too quick to prescribe, sometimes not knowing all the interactions with other drugs and over the counter meds, something drug companies don’t always know either. I admire your blog and it will help others, your sister in law will not have died in vain if her story saves one other life.
Thank you for this wonderful post!
My husband and I were touched by *prescription meds* overdose this past Nov 2012 when my sister-in-law overdosed on Psych & pain medications. We are all still in some shock, as the coroner ruled her Death “Intentional Overdose”…….all the family where trying to help her for months, but to no avail. The laws in Arizona are tough to break through to have a person be “Incapacitated”. She lived in Prescott and they in Glendal/Phnx area, so was tough having someone watch her 24/7……..I myself also had an Aunt pass of the same thing back in 1978, so this has been going on FAR to long, so Thank You for this Article, and information. *Author, Catherine Townsend-Lyon* “Addicted To Dimes” http://catherinelyonaddictedtodimes.wordpress.com
This show will help expose the true landscape of health care once again! As a “product” of traditional medicine and a former health care provider, I am interested and disillusioned at the same time with all of this propaganda!
Who serves the true needs of the patients? Congratulations Dr.Akoury and Dr. Smith for being proactive! I know it will be one of the best shows t yet. AND… beautifully compiled post, Delilah! All of you are so talented! Ladyjustice
