Mary Ellen Bruneau was a long time single mother when she married for the first time in her 40’s. Thinking she had found “the one” who would provide for her, love her, be her companion, she soon realized what a mistake the marriage was.
Educated with degrees in criminal justice and psychology, Mary Ellen saw the writing on the wall, that the marriage was a continuous battle of keeping him happy , making changes to herself, but he was never happy enough. Violence was only another step away.
A native of Vermont, and with that New England tenacity, Mary Ellen was able to escape and start rebuilding her life. She went back to get her PhD in psychology, once again finding her spirituality, and seeing her son become a professional jazz trumpet player.
We will hear of Mary Ellen’s experiences and learn what avenues she found to escape her abusive marriage and how she finds happiness in her life today, the subject of her upcoming book.
