Change Already! is taking a little diversion for the month of February and offering listeners a chance to hear and learn about “Soulful Songwriters,” Jillian’s personal friends and musicians. Artists will enlighten listeners about how they translate personal spirituality, empathic sensitivity and creativity into powerful music that transcends the soul.

Soulful Songwriter Series Part VI

Change Already closes out its series of Soulful Songwriters with the youngest musician of the future, McKenna Shanholtzer.

Bound and determined to make her mark early in the music industry, McKenna was cast in local musicals at the tender age of two around the Chicago area. She continued working in local venues believing this was the natural step to achieving her goal of becoming a professional musician. Unbeknownst to her at the time, the universe held a special vision that would showcase her songwriting talent in a more prominent position, front and center all by herself.

In her freshman year of high school she suffered her first “setback” not uncommon to young aspiring artists. She was passed over and did not make the musical team for the upcoming production. Instead of sulking and giving up, McKenna took this as a sign to re-group and search for other ways to keep her dream alive. Trusting in her empathic gut feeling and gifts she ventured out alone by picking up a guitar, piece of paper, and started writing her first song. From that moment forward McKenna discovered her own potential and never looked back.

Now, a junior in high school she spends her free time composing music and appearing at local establishments in Chicago. After graduation she intents on attending a university in the Nashville area and majoring in music.
