Girls of Destine Director, Lisa Blakes, has invited Dottie Laster to speak at the regular meeting on Saturday, February 16 about human trafficking. The mentorship program is designed to minister to the needs of young ladies ages 10-17, an age group that many traffickers prey upon, and assist them to becoming responsible teens guided into healthy relationships with others.

Through a complete understanding of human trafficking it’s hoped that the young girls in attendance will come a way with the information needed to prevent themselves, and their peers, from being lured into the hands of those who are out to harm them. By learning to recognize the warning signs and red flags that most traffickers exhibit, the girls will be informed at their level of understanding and learn to make wise decisions if ever confronted.

The Girls of Destine program is designed to minister to the needs of young ladies ages 10-17.  At this pivotal time in their lives, girls will experience an enormous amount of change in a short period of time.  As a result, there are many issues and questions that need to be addressed by women/mentors who will guide them and love them with the compassion of Christ.

This program empowers, exposes and educates pre-teen and teenage girls to make wise and healthy life decisions through mentorship, Christian counseling, education, volunteerism, exposure to the arts, culture and travel.

Once the program is completed, the girls will not let society or other people determine who they are based on where they come from or what they look like.  The girls will emerge seeing themselves more precious than rubies and as a unique creation of God!

The Girls of Destine offers specific elective classes, community service activities and monthly enrichment meetings designed to give the girls Christian instruction along with learning about every day events which may impact their lives. They must complete a set number of hours in order to graduate from the program.

Dottie Laster is a nationally recognized expert in the field of human trafficking. She has been trained by the Department of Justice to train law enforcement on human trafficking. She has been the architect and leader of human trafficking task forces and coalitions in many cities in Texas and California. In her career she has been directly and indirectly responsible for the rescue and service of over 200 victims of trafficking in the United States. She is credentialed to practice immigration law through the Bernado Kohler Center.
