Talking to Will County, IL State’s Attorney Jim Glasgow and Pastor Neil Schori the discussion will surround the protection of women in violent relationships and what each of them are doing in their respective fields to alleviate and prevent the escalation of the violence.
Before and since Jim Glasgow successfully prosecuted Drew Peterson, there is an initiative through his office to address the issue of intimate partner violence in a serious way. One of the key witnesses in the trial for the murder of Peterson’s third wife, Kathleen Savio, Pastor Neil Schori ,testified about a confessional meeting with Peterson’s still missing fourth wife, Stacy, and helped deliver the conviction the prosecutors were looking for.
Jim Glasgow and Neil Schori are among the “few good men” who are willing and able to make a stand against violence in relationships, whether the perpetrator is male or female, and take the necessary steps to do their part in education, awareness, prevention, and, most important, being proactive in taking essential measures.
Each of them is familiar with the Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit created by the late Susan Murphy-Milano in her book Time’s Up: How to Safely Leave an Abusive and Stalking Relationship , and both have worked with her closely in the past. Pastor Schori has been instrumental in the establishment of Document the Abuse along with Murphy-Milano’s colleague, Sandra L. Brown, M.A. of The Institute for Relational Harm Reduction headquartered in North Carolina.
Pastor Neil Schori has created a program within Naperville Christian Church which has been highly successful in assisting victims of violence with the creation of their personal safety plans, the Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit, and, if necessary, providing safe houses in emergency cases. Through Document the Abuse and it’s subsequent certified training, Schori will bring this plan to others in the faith based community as a model and a way for other clergy to become involved in keeping victims safe.
