Peter Valentin has the unique distinction of being a renowned instructor who combines an impressive educational background with experience in the practical application of his trade. Peter finished a distinguished career with the Connecticut State Police in August of 2011, retiring as a Detective in the Major Crime Squad. His work encompassed the investigation of homicides, suspicious deaths and other major crime scenes. As a member of Connecticut’s elite Urban Search and Rescue team, he has extensive training in detecting criminal activity at a major disaster and also functions as a rescue specialist, focused on saving injured and trapped victims.
Peter’s impressive academic credentials include graduating Cum Laude from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, with a BS in Forensic Science. Peter also earned a Master of Science degree in Forensic Science from the University of New Haven where he is a lecturer in the Forensic Science department. He is currently pursuing his PhD in forensic science at the City University of New York Graduate Center.
Peter is a member of the Federal Government’s disaster forensic team responsible for human remains identification during a terrorist event or disaster. Recent deployments included several months during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
He has received extensive training on a variety of forensic investigative techniques including blood spatter interpretation, anthropology, bombing/explosive investigations, alternate light sources for evidence collection, crime scene photography and disaster crime scene management. Peter also has considerable training on investigative techniques and he recently completed the New York City Police Department Homicide Seminar.
