Using a unique twist to market a new book, No City for Dreaming, a novel by author Don O’Melveny speculates on the last days of Marilyn Monroe, The “No City for Dreaming Mystery Game” brings fans into the mix to solve the mystery of what really happened to Marilyn.
Dr. Scott Bonn, noted criminologist and media analyst, is on board to add his expertise to the game. A Drew University professor of criminology and sociology, Bonn will lend his research of the criminal mind to the game, navigating the details of the notorious Hollywood murder….or was it murder? Utilizing the information gathered by the author’s research and speculation contained in the books, Doc Bonn will assist game players through the maze of details.

Be a criminal profiler! Solve the great murder mystery challenge and you could win the $250 Grand Prize! Starting August 1st at (12 noon PST) to August 15th (12 noon PST) you have a chance to solve who killed Marilyn Monroe and how he or she did it.
If you love CSI, Criminal Minds, Dexter and NCIS, then you’ll have a blast solving the “Who Killed Marilyn Monroe Murder Mystery Game Challenge,” an unprecedented, cyber mystery whodunit based on the new top selling book No City for Dreaming (no need to read in order to play) by author Don O’Melveny, who is helping to promote both the book and the game along with Dr. Scott Bonn (Doc Bonn), professor of criminology, author and guest media commentator who has been an analyst on Dr. Drew on HLN, for the New York Post and frequently assists the press with analysis on murder mystery cases.
You as the FAN can now become a detective who will be given clues to solve the greatest Hollywood murder mystery of all time – Who killed Marilyn Monroe and how was it done?
O’Melveny has listed all possible suspects in the game on the No City for Dreaming website, http://www.nocityfordreaming.com/marilynmystery and each day on Facebook (http://www.facebook.comnocityfordreaming) one of the suspects with yet another clue to help you solve the murder mystery will be posted.
Your assignment is simple: Using the known clues provided and knowledge you have about the case, determine who killed Marilyn Monroe and how he/she did it.
Here’s how it works!
There are two ways to solve the crime:
- On Facebook, to play, “Like” the No City for Dreaming fan Page (http://www.facebook.com/nocityfordreaming)
- Enter to win on the No City for Dreaming website http://www.nocityfordreaming.com
It will also be promoted on the No City for Dreaming Twitter page (@marilynm50th) as well as Dr. Bonn’s Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/docbonn) and on Twitter (@Docbonn).
Every day for the first week you’ll receive a clue to help answer the mystery, “Who killed Marilyn Monroe?” Beginning Wednesday, Aug. 1 and running through Sunday, Aug. 5, a new suspect clue will be posted on the No City for Dreaming Facebook page and on Twitter and promoted on the Doc Bonn Facebook and Twitter pages to guide your investigation of who killed the starlet. You can team up with other investigators to help one another or conduct your own private research.
On or before Wednesday, Aug. 8 by 12 noon PST, submit who you think the infamous killer is based on your investigation and clues. Only one entry allowed per investigator. At 9 p.m. PST, the killer will be revealed on the No City for Dreaming website, Facebook and Twitter pages. Everyone who answers correctly will be entered into the Grand Prize drawing of $250 as well as a random drawing to win one of several “killer” prizes:
- T-shirts
- Free copies of the book
Even if you are incorrect, don’t worry! You can still continue to search for how she was murdered in the second part of the mystery.
During Week 2, August 8-15, you’ll receive clues (same sites and pages) that will determine how she was murdered. On or before Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 12 noon PST, submit your answer of how Marilyn was murdered on the No City for Dreaming Facebook page and website. The method of murder will be revealed at 6p PST and the drawing and the Grand prize winner will be revealed at 7p PST on August 15, 2012.
All names from both weeks who answered correctly will have a chance to win the Grand Prize of a $250 Visa gift card! If you play both weeks, you have two chances of winning the prize. (If you submit more than one answer, your first answer will count as the entry). All correct entries will be immediately entered into a random drawing to win the Grand Prize.
The winner will be announced during on a Facebook Party at 7 p.m. PST and also posted. Then, on Friday, Aug. 17, O’Melveny and Bonn will be on the LifeBites Radio show to answer any unresolved questions regarding Marilyn’s death and murder mysteries in general. The winner will also be highlighted on the show.
