Early in June, Susan Murphy-Milano was diagnosed with cancer, stage IV.  Many across the nation know and love Susan for the work she’s done with victims of abuse through hands on guidance for over 20 years, her books, and many public appearances. Although Susan’s disease is serious, she’s sharing her experiences publicly through a new blog, ConqueringCancer.Me.  What Susan hopes to accomplish by exposing herself, her disease, and her treatment, is to show others that there is always hope.

Working with a team of healers from AwareMed Medical Institute in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, under the direction of Dr. Dalal Akoury, MD, Susan has made the decision to allow the world to see her progress by documenting her treatments and outcomes as they happen. When possible, she will be blogging daily and sharing pictures and videos of her day.

Treatments at AwareMed are focused on the healing and balance of the whole body, mind and spirit, using every tool available through traditional and alternative practices. Dr. Akoury’s treatments are meant to get the cancer under control, create an environment in the body where cancer can not live, and to balance the patient’s life and lifestyle to include more self-awareness towards healing and staying healthy.

Susan will be sharing with her reading audience tips that have helped her, such as what clothes to wear, (even down to the shoes!), what to expect during treatments that she’s taking, and how she feels daily. She will also share the costs and comparisons of cancer treatment, the traditional medical community and its attitudes, what’s working for her and what isn’t.

With no medical insurance coverage, Susan’s medical bills are piling up rapidly.  For instance, lab testings that are vitally needed can run close to $15,000. Through her many friends and colleagues nationwide, fundraising campaigns are underway, and there is the ability to make direct donations on the site.  Although fund raising efforts are now concentrated towards Susan’s immediate health crisis, when this crisis passes and she is fully back in the saddle, any excess funds will go towards a future foundation that will assist qualified patients without adequate healthcare to receive treatment.

There are alternative ways to help support Susan’s health crisis and her medical bills, by purchasing books, scheduling speaking engagements, or buying an ad on the site.
