Melissa Cann is Seeking Justice, YOU Can Help!

Having to overcome deep tragedies sometimes instills an energy into a person to reach out and help others, often as a way of helping themselves cope. Shattered Lives guest,  Melissa Cann, is one such person. Thrust into a world she, and others, were not prepared for, the world of missing persons and surviving a homicide, Melissa has found the support of many other families living the same experience.

She was a big sister to Melissa and Will, a reader who loved to share books as gifts, and a devoted mother.  Maureen Brainard-Barnes was found on Gilgo Beach, along with several others, most likely her death caused by the so-called, Long Island Serial Killer.  Missing since 2007, and her case not a top priority with investigators, as are most adult missing cases, her remains were not found and confirmed until 2010.

If losing her sister were not enough, Melissa lost her brother, Will, in a tragic motorcycle accident.

As a way to help other families, and in honor of all the victims found on Long Island, Melissa organized a fund-raiser, Stunts 4 Justice, to help fund the Crimestoppers reward for the investigation and justice for all those whose remains were found with Maureen Brainard-Barnes’.  Her goal is to reach $5000 by the end of the summer. This show is to honor Melissa Cann and her efforts, to find out how she is coping in the aftermath of her loss, and to impart information to the listeners who may also be living in devastation. We hope that listeners will spread the word about who Maureen Brainard-Barnes really was, how much she meant to her entire family, how much she is missed, and to keep her memory, and the memory of all the victims, in the forefront until justice is served.
