In honor of April’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Lisa Michels was invited to speak at Westwood College in Anandale, VA. Her presentation was in conjunction with a fundraiser to benefit Polaris Project, an organization who works to combat human trafficking and sexual slavery.
During her presentation Lisa shared her experiences being a guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show in 2001 as a participant in the Dr. Phil segment called “The Get Real Challenge.” Little did Lisa know at that time that her life would be changed forever as she worked with Dr. Phil.
As Lisa says, “Dr. Phil has a way of taking your life out of you and putting it in front of your face, then deal with it.” Lisa’s life took a turn as she worked through the process of dealing with the memories that came flooding back to her that day, all caught on video tape. As she worked with counselors and therapists when she returned home, she learned that she has a higher mission, to educate and bring awareness to the issue of sexual assault and to help other victims become stronger survivors.
Lisa’s passion for assisting victims led her to RAINN’s Speakers Bureau and also a local Non-profit Human Trafficking organization as an Executive Board Member, working to combat human trafficking and the sex trade.
Vodpod videos no longer available.
