Each Fall, the West Hollywood Book Fair presents more than 300 novelists, journalists, poets and other writers from Southern California and beyond in panels, readings, and other special appearances. The 10th annual West Hollywood Book Fair will be held on Sunday, October 2 in West Hollywood Park, 647 N. San Vicente Blvd., following the official opening of the park’s new West Hollywood Library the previous day. The city expects more than 25,000 visitors to attend.
Dennis McDougal, award winning journalist and author, is attending the 10th annual affair, and will be participating at the Mystery & Suspense Pavillion panel discussion. McDougal has lectured in journalism and creative writing at UCLA, Stanford, and the California State Universities at Fullerton and Long Beach, as well as writing several true crime books, biographies and his first novel, THE CANDLESTICKMAKER (Rosebud Publishing).
A frequent contributor to TV Guide through the 1990s, his last story for the magazine was the murderous saga of actor Robert Blake and his late porn queen wife Bonny Lee Bakley. McDougal and co-author Mary Murphy turned that story into the bestseller “Blood Cold” (Putnam, 2002). McDougal is a frequent contributor to the New York Times and has also written for Los Angeles Magazine, Premiere, and dozens of other publications.
Most recently author of Five Easy Decades: How Jack Nicholson Became the Biggest Movie Star in Modern Time (John Wiley & Sons, 2008), Dennis McDougal has chronicled Hollywood, crime and the media for over 30 years. His forthcoming Things Have Changed (John Wiley & Sons, 2011) is the new biography of music legend Bob Dylan.
He and his wife, Sharon, live near Memphis, Tennessee, have five children, and 13 grandchildren.
The Mystery & Suspense panel discussion, with several noted true crime authors, promises to reveal to the audience the grueling amount of research involved in producing a high quality true crime book based on the events and people surrounding some of the most nefarious crimes and criminals.
While in California for the West Hollywood Book Fair, McDougal will be a guest of the Orange County Sisters in Crime group on October 16.
All author panels are followed by book signings at the Mystery Ink Bookstore booth!
